The benefits of having your own sawmill
1. Selection and supply
We go out to the forest ourselves. Each log is inspected and priced. Once selected, we arrange transportation through our regular partners.
2. Length classification & sorting
The logs are cut to the appropriate lengths using our crane and then sorted and stacked. This ensures efficiency in the rest of the process.
3. Sawing of raw timber
We cut logs into rough planks of the desired thicknesses (based on inventory needs) using our log saw. Our in-house-produced drying slats ensure optimal packaging.
4. Storage and drying
Our sawn timber first undergoes natural drying (6–12 months), followed by controlled artificial drying to achieve a stable moisture content.
5. Post-processing and integration
The dried planks are returned to our workshop. Each plank is cut straight again and sorted into treads or stringers. Then the planing process begins, and Trappen Demunster takes over.
